His home was located across from the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he frequently could be seen sitting in front of his house and speaking to those passing by after church. Through one of those visits, he met his best friend, Paul Gochenour, who invited him to church and about a year ago, Terry joined the church and became a regular attendee until he was called to his heavenly home. Terry is survived by his sister, Betty, husband Glenn Gaede, of Enid, OK, 4 nephews, 1 niece, 2 great nieces and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Nick and Miriam Cates and his brother Dale Cates. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the Logan Memorial Chapel, Logan, Iowa. Burial will be at the Harris Grove cemetery, Logan, Iowa.
