Royce Allen Hildreth

Royce Hildreth passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at Bickford Senior Living in Urbandale, Iowa at the age of 80 years old. Royce was born on April 11, 1944, to Charles and Nina (Crews) Hildreth in Pisgah, IA. He was baptized in the Community of Christ Church in Pisgah, Iowa where he was a lifelong member.

Royce attended elementary school in Pisgah and was in the last graduating class from Pisgah Schools in 1962. He served in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. On September 8, 1967, he married Dorothy Elaine Pitt at the Christian Church in Logan, Iowa. Royce used the GI Bill to attend Tool and Dye School, but in 1973 he began farming in Pisgah and Woodbine, Iowa. During this time, he also sold seed corn for Golden Harvest and had a construction business where he built terraces.

Royce always enjoyed helping others. He was Veterans Director for Harrison County for 23 years where he also served on the Veteran’s board. The additional boards he served on were the West Harrison School Board, the Harrison County Fair Board and the Pisgah Medical Board.

Royce enjoyed competition and the great outdoors. He hunted, fished, and played endless rounds of golf. Family vacations, camping, and boating were treasured summer activities. He often attended baseball games with his family in Kansas City to watch the Royals. He was eager to jump in the car for a drive around the countryside, taking in the scenery he dearly appreciated. Royce enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends. He especially loved to laugh and have a good time.

Royce is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Elaine Hildreth on January 20, 2015; his parents; his brothers: Charles (Bud), Warren (Swede), Arlan, Bernard, Russell, and Joe; his sisters: Phyllis Petersen, Neva Hinkel, Janece Connery, and Helen Welter; and in-laws: Dorothy Hildreth, Harry Peterson, Martha Hildreth, Ed Connery, Norman Welter, Estal Hinkel, Doris Hildreth, and Connie Hildreth.

Royce is survived by his daughters, Stacy (Rod) Leiting of Marion, IA; Denise Hildreth of Grimes, IA; Jill Hildreth of Des Moines, IA; grandson Evan Leiting of Cedar Rapids, IA; step granddaughter Kennedy Baily of Truro, IA; sister Sandy Tucker; and sisters-in-law JoAnn Hildreth and Dorothy Hildreth and many other relatives and friends.

Family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship following the burial.
