Marvin Addison Foutch was born on September 25, 1946, at home in Hardscratch, Iowa to Addison and Donna Ruth (Koenig) Foutch. He was baptized in the Methodist Church. He attended grade school at Reeders Mill School and high school at Logan-Magnolia, graduating in 1964. While growing up he spent countless hours with his cousins. He began farming at the early age of 9, and continued until 1975. Allergies to corn, soybeans, and fertilizer led him to change careers to Ashton Wholesale, where he drove over one million miles until 1992. He then worked for Pony Express, the courier company. In 1998, he suffered a massive heart attack. He continued to work for Pony Express until 2000, where he then worked at Central Parking – his last and final gig before retiring at 62 as a full-time grandpa.
Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Carol Burress, on November 26th, 1965 which lasted for over 50 years. From this union, they had three children; Shelley, Brenda, and Todd. He was an avid stockcar fan and loved his Raiders, Nebraska and Creighton Basketball, and Iowa Hawkeye Football. Marvin was a board member of Missouri Valley Youth Wrestling, and spent many Saturdays transporting the wrestlers to and from their meets. The family loved to travel to many places-South Dakota being one of Marv’s favorites-along with visiting many of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s homesteads. On many weekends, you would find him working on the family’s vehicles and his beloved lawnmower. Above all, Marvin loved his family. He put them first and foremost, and truly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. He cherished nothing more than sitting around the table, catching up, telling stories, and laughing with his kids and grandkids, with Jim Beam in hand. His favorite quote was “kids raising kids.”
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Shelley & husband Jim Avrams, daughter Brenda Huegli, and son Todd & wife Diane Foutch.
Granchildren include Britley Kierscht, Jacob Kierscht, Brianne & husband John Faulkner, Jordan Foutch, Andrea Avrams, Danielle Avrams, Addison Huegli & Makenna Huegli, his great grandson Royce Petersen and his favorite furry best friend, Yogi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa.
