Lyle L. Oloff Sr.

Lyle LeeVern Oloff Sr. 94, died November 16, 2020 at his son’s home in Idaho Falls, ID, from complications due to leukemia.

Lyle L. Oloff Sr. was born on the family farm, Harrison County, Cass Township, west of Portsmouth, Iowa, on July 5, 1926 to William and Elsie McKeigan Oloff. Lyle was baptized on October 16, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Persia, Iowa. He grew up on the farm attending Cass Center Country School. Lyle married Betty Meier on March 27, 1949, at First Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley. Lyle and Betty were confirmed into the Lutheran faith on October 18, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran, Logan. They farmed in the Logan, Portsmouth area raising five boys. Over the years, Lyle also worked for Schemmer Rock Quarry drilling dynamite holes with a wagon drill, and Harrison County road department operating a road grader maintaining the roads of Cass Township. Lyle and Betty retired from farming in 1977, moving to Logan, Iowa, and opening and operating the Oloff Machine Shop until their full retirement in 1997. Lyle and Betty enjoyed traveling, winters in Arizona, and fishing at their lake home in Minnesota. Lyle also enjoyed woodworking and reading westerns.

Lyle is preceded in death by his wife Betty of 62 years, his parents, brothers and sisters; grandson, Joshua, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl.

He is survived by his five sons: Wayne (Beth) Blair, NE., James (Betty), Idaho Falls, ID, Keith (Bonnie), Logan, IA, Lyle Jr., Portsmouth, IA, Terry (Ronda), Logan, IA. Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation is set for Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Logan Memorial Chapel, in Logan, IA.

Graveside service will be on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Cemetery in Persia, Iowa.

    We were sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. We have many fond memories of the good times we had together. We remember camping trips, holiday get-togethers, milestones and many more. We would have liked to pay our respects in person, but, unfortunately we will not be able to attend. It would have been nice to see everybody after such a long time.

    So sorry to hear that Lyle passed, we haven’t been out much because of COVID., so hadn’t seen the notice. He and John were long time friends. It was always nice to do business with him and Betty. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    We are so sorry about Lyle Rod and I got real acquainted with them down in Arizona. when my Parents were down in Arizona Ray & Irma Williams were traveling down along . with the group. Bucky & Glaidis Huges also Gene & Janice Benson So many fun times with the group
