Lewis Arlen Larsen of Persia, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the age of 84. After several months of declining health, Lewie died peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side.
Lewie was born in Tyler to Henry and Esther (Sorensen) Larsen on February 28, 1938 as the oldest of three children. He moved to Persia as a lineman in 1959 where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Betty Larsen. He joined the army and served at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for three years. Lewie and Betty were blessed with two children, Jeffery and Robin, and moved back to Persia where they raised their family and he lived for the rest of his life.
Lewie worked in trucking for Mobil Oil and Ring Transfer until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren fishing, spending time at their home outside Persia, and having family dinners. Lewie spent his retirement camping and spending time outdoors with Betty, especially in Iowa and Minnesota where he grew up. He especially liked working on and restoring his old Farmall tractor. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and reading Louis L ‘amour books in his free time. Lewie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed sharing the wisdom of his many years and experiences and would also do anything for his family without us needing to ask him. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a man who always had time to help someone learn to drive, show them the correct way to hook up a trailer, back into a seemingly impossible camping spot with no visible effort, or just sit at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee for a long discussion about whatever topic came up.
Lewie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean Larsen, son-in-law Dean Nelson, and brothers-in-law, Jake Dather, Gary Martens, and Robert Martens..
Lewie is survived by his loving wife Betty (Martens) Larsen, his children, son Jeffery Larsen and daughter Robin (Jeff) Nelson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Justin (Erin) Nelson, Hilary (Wade) Garren, Melissa (John) Kind and great grandchildren Trenton, Chase and Cole Garren. He is also survived by his sister, Colleen Dather, brother-in-law Arlon (Vicki) Martens and many nieces and nephews.

Robin so sorry to hear of your dads passing you all are in our thoughts and prayers
The Nick Bruck Family sends our deepest sympathy to Betty and children Jeff and Robin. When I moved to the country in Persia, Betty and Lewie became my neighbors. For the next 59 years our connection stayed strong as our paths took many turns. I had the great fortune of working with Lewie at the local feed mill in Persia. Lewies great passion was driving truck and keeping his equipment in top shape to be the safest possible while on the road. When I asked where he came from, he said Tyler Minnestoa and spent time in Apply Valley, Minnestoa. I never forgot him telling me that, sounded like such a pleasant place to come from. Betty and family, The Brucks sends heartfelt sorrow with the passing of Lewie. Lewie’s life was full, today heats beat with sadness, all who knew you will cherish your memory as it shines down on all. Rest in peace Lewie. The Nick Bruck Family, Ron.
