Jay D. Jensen

Jay Darrin Jensen, age 55 of Logan, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family around 11:00 P.M. on May 28, 2023. Jay was born on October 12, 1967, to John and Elaine Jensen in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

He was one of three children, Jay grew up in Omaha, Nebraska until moving to Magnolia, Iowa where they moved to his family’s acreage. Jay graduated from Logan-Magnolia community school class of 1986. Jay served in the United States National Guard from 1986 to 1993. Jay and Linda Cox (Jensen) started dating in 1991 and have been together ever since. Jay became a father to Linda’s two boys from the very beginning. Jay was not only blessed with his two stepsons John and Ryan Cox, he, and Linda were also blessed with their son Cid.

Jay was a hard worker and he loved to work and keep busy. Jay worked at Schemmer Limestone Quarry, Bond Equipment, M&J Grading, and McArdle Grading. Jay spent most of his career as a heavy equipment operator. Jay also worked for Tom Schwertly during the winter.

Jay loved to deer hunt, Jay received 4th place in Des Moines at the 2001 Iowa Deer Classic event in the shot gun category, with one of his trophy bucks that he got mounted. Jay also enjoyed mushroom hunting, and he loved mowing his lawn. Jay was always busy keeping his garage and shed clean. Jay took pride in his shed and all his vehicles. Family members would tease Jay when they got in any of his vehicles if they should take their shoes off because he always kept his vehicles spotless.

Jay had a pride of perfectionism to him. He had no problem stopping what he was doing whether at work or at home to assist anyone with something they needed done. He was known to drop what he was doing to help someone else in need, he would try and talk you through what you were working on and sometimes he would stop what he was doing and just come to that person and help them out. Jay had no problem buying a new toy only to cut and weld and modify it that day cause the manufacturer could have done a better job building it all while voiding the warranty. He could be at work sitting in his machine directing you through a phone call and maybe even using some specific finger gestures to help ensure that person is achieving his best work. Or he could be relaxing at home only to jump up and help a family member on a vehicle issue and show you in-depth to avoid problems and how to fix it.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents John and Elaine Jensen.

Jay is survived by Linda Cox (Jensen) his stepsons John Cox of Madrid, Iowa, Ryan Cox of Harlan, Iowa, son Cid Jensen of Logan, Iowa, and eight grandchildren: his brother Jerry Jensen wife Lora of Woodbine Iowa and sister Jonna Schlecht husband Lowell of Scribner Nebraska, nieces, and nephews, and many more relatives and friends.
