Iris Isolde Wood born July 9, 1938, age 82, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
A young German woman from Kaiserslautern, who as a young girl narrowly survived WWII, had no idea that stationed on an American base in her hometown was a young American soldier from Blencoe, Iowa and they would soon start a family.
Iris Isolde Steiner, a lucky survivor of WWII, met Norman Newton Wood and fell in love. Married in Kaiserslautern May of 1962 in their mid-20’s, learning about each other and each other’s language, a year later moved to the States/ Ft. Benning, Georgia. They had their first child Bernell in 1963, then Ilona in 1965.
Iris then continued on her journey with Norman to his home in Iowa to meet his large farm family from Harrison County. There, she gave birth to Newton in 1966 and Thomas in 1971. Iris, a homemaker, lived in Logan for the rest of her life after her divorce from Norman until her entrance into Longview several years ago after battling the decline of time and recently succumbed to the China Virus, like many her age. She worked at the old Kopper Kettle and at the nursing homes in Logan and Missouri Valley making many friends.
Iris raised on her own, four, baptized and confirmed Christian children, who attended Logan-Magnolia school from kindergarten to graduation.
This mother of four is survived and lovingly remembered by, her son Bernell and wife Christine of Logan, Iowa; daughter Ilona and husband Chuck of Clarinda, Iowa, son Newton from San Marcos, Texas and son Thomas of Missouri Valley, Iowa; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 1, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, Iowa.

We are so saddened to hear about Iris. I always enjoyed my conversations with her at the bank, or the grocery store, or really anywhere about town! She was a wonderful woman. You picked the most beautiful picture of her. I always told Iris purple was her color. Our sincere condolences to the entire family.
So many fond memories of Iris. She was a great cook and took pride in caring for children. She was our neighbor & friend. Loved running into her & hearing her voice and seeing the beer in her cart.
