Helen Plath Wood

 Helen M. Plath-Wood, 99 Helen M. Plath-Wood, 99, died Thursday, March 14, in Omaha, Neb. Visitation: 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 17, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Logan. Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Monday, March 18, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Logan. Officiating: Rev. Daniel Steeb. Organist: Dona Emswiler. Vocalist: Gloria Stover Pallbearers: D. J. Clanton, Dave Wall, Mitch Stover, Brad Krauth, Jason Fredstrom, Don Hekter. Interment: Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia. Helen was born April 19, 1919 in Logan. She graduated from Logan High School in 1936 and married John Plath in November 1937. John and Helen farmed for several years in Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties, and raised their daughters in Woodbine. After John’s death in 1992, Helen managed the Plath Midtown Apartments, as well as the farms. She married Jim Wood of Logan in 1994, and they spent several years travelling the country. Helen served on the board of the Wood Foundation because she believed in the improvement and future of the Logan community. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and even in ill-health had a deep love for her church, friends, and Logan. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Sadie Hammitt; children, Johnny Jr., Jeanette, Peggy Meyers; husbands, John Plath, Jim Wood; son-in-law, Denny Clanton; brothers, Dorance, Verne, Claude, and Lyle Hammitt; sisters, Wildon Stirtz, Lucielle Wohlers, and Stella Watkins. She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Clanton; grandchildren, Lisa (Dave) Wall, DJ (Jill) Clanton, Traci (Brad) Krauth, Misti (Jason) Fredstrom, Lindsey (Mitch) Stover; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Memorials suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Logan. Arrangements by Logan Funeral Chapel in Logan.

    I will always remember Aunt Helen for her dignified manners and sweet smile. She was a generous host to her large extended family and we kids always had a ball there at her home.
