Harry A. Chase

Harry Arthur Chase, age 87, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at Westmont Care Center. Harry was born October 4, 1927 in Guthrie Center, Iowa to Leo and Fern (Cameron) Chase. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jo Cahail on April 18, 1945. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary prior to Betty’s passing in June 2012. During his high school years, Harry sold shoes. After he and Betty were married, he worked at creameries making butter in Guthrie Center, Kimballton, and Logan until 1968, the family set roots in Logan where he worked for the City of Logan until he retired in 1990. After retirement, he mowed the grounds three years for the Logan-Magnolia Community Schools. In 2004, Harry and Betty moved to Council Bluffs where they lived with their daughter, Char. Harry enjoyed camping with his family. Harry was good working with his hands; he designed a camping trailer, toy machine sheds for his grandsons, toy box for his great-grandson, and a mailbox. He loved to watch his grandchildren play in various sports. He was a huge fan of Logan-Magnolia football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolates. Harry loved watching television. His favorite programs were Perry Mason and any western. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, parents Leo and Fern Chase, parents-in-law Ralph and Martha Cahail, son Larry, grandson Stuart Chase, sister Berneda Tracy and sister-in-law Myrna Reed. Survivors include daughter Char Chase; son, Scott Chase and wife Betsy all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son, David Chase and wife Sharon of Logan, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jerry Cahail and wife Karen of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law, Pat Chestnut of Adair, Iowa. Harry also had seven grandkids, seven great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. Private family visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday with open viewing for the public until 8:00 p.m. at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa.
