FRANK CHARLES WEILAND, age 78, of Logan, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa. Frank was born March 1, 1932 in Scotland, South Dakota to Joseph John and Julia Martha (Mohr) Weiland. Frank served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1951 until 1959. Frank was a school teacher in Crofton, Nebraska for four years and then taught Language Arts in Logan for twenty-eight years. Frank was married to Carol L. Burgi, June 11, 1959 in Yankton, South Dakota. Frank was a member of the VFW, St. Annes Catholic Church and he enjoyed gardening, wood working, painting, writing poetry, fishing trips with his nephews Ron, Jerry, Randy and his brother-in-law and best friend Otto. Frank always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Survivors include his son: Mark Weiland of Sioux City, Iowa; daughters: Lori Pitt and husband Mike of Logan, Iowa; Carla Noyes and husband Lee of Redfield, South Dakota; son: John Weiland and wife Susanna of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren: Alma, Christian and Bronwyn Pitt; Joseph, Jared and John Noyes; and Amanda Leiting; brother: Don and wife Gladys and sister-in-law, Valeria all of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister: Marie Ulmer and husband Merritt of Menno, South Dakota; many beloved nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Clarence, Joseph (Ardena) Raymond (Hazel) Vincent (Alice) Willard (Dorothy), Julia (Art), Harold, and Violet (Otto) A Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with family visitation to follow at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan.
