Dale R. Cates, age 64, of Logan, Iowa passed away on October 24, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Dale was born October 24, 1948 to Roy and Miriam (Unmack) Cates at their home near Harris Grove Cemetery. He graduated from Logan High School in 1967, he then attended a Mechanical Trade School in Council Bluffs, Iowa and worked for Louie Matt Anderson Ford for ten years, Jacks Conoco Gas Station for a few years, then retired from Atchley Ford in 2004. Dale married Judith Emswiler on October 26, 1978, and resided in the Logan area all of his life. Dale liked antiques, IH tractors, gardening, his pets and visiting with friends at the local coffee shop. He loved teasing and pulling pranks on his family and friends. Dale was preceded in death by father; Roy N. Cates, father in law: Charles Emswiler; brother in law: Vincent Emswiler. Survivors include his wife: Judith Cates of Logan, Iowa; son: Marlon and Peggy of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter: Melanie Ellis and Eric of Blair, Nebraska; step son: Brian Cave and Lisa Winther of Magnolia, Iowa; mother: Miriam Cates of Logan, Iowa; sister: Betty Gaede and husband Glenn of Enid, Oklahoma; brother: Terry Cates of Logan, Iowa; mother in law: Ethel Emswiler of Logan, Iowa; four grandchildren; Drayden and Lexi Cates, Jaxson Ellis and Austin Cave, sister-in-law: Nancy and Verdell Mundt of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother-in-law: Tom and Dona Emswiler of Logan, Iowa; sister-in-law: Sherry Emswiler of Council Bluffs, Iowa; beloved dog Molly, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa.
