Betty Jo Chase

Betty Jo (Cahail) Chase age 84 of Council Bluffs, Iowa formerly of Logan, Iowa passed away June 28, 2012 at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty Jo was born January 17, 1928 in Guthrie County, Iowa to Ralph and Martha (Benton) Cahail. She graduated high school in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She was married to her high school sweetheart Harry Chase on April 18, 1945. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on April 18th. Due to Harry’s job at the creameries they lived in Guthrie Center, Elkhorn, Kimballton, and finally settled in Logan, Iowa. During those years, Betty taught school at Bear Grove #2 in Guthrie County, worked nights in a nursing home, was a cook at LMCSD, and worked in the bakery at Harvey’s Grocery Store in Logan. Even after enduring the great sadness of losing a son at the age of two days and a grandson, Betty always had a fun positive attitude for life. She loved baking for her family, working on crossword puzzles with her morning coffee, playing cards with her family and the Logan Card party friends. She always had time to play a game with her grandchildren when they came to stay. She was active in Logan Methodist Church and women’s group. Betty loved visiting with people and she never knew a stranger. In 2004, Betty and Harry moved to Council Bluffs to live with their daughter, Char. Betty was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Martha Cahail, parents-in-law Leo and Fern Chase, son Larry, grandson Stuart Chase, sister Myrna Reed and sister-in-law Berneda Tracy. Survivors include her husband, Harry, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, daughter, Char Chase of Council Bluffs, Iowa, sons, David Chase and wife Sharon of Logan, Iowa, Scott Chase and wife Betsy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, brother, Jerry Cahail and wife Karen of Des Moines, Iowa; and sister, Pat Chestnut of Adair, Iowa. She also had seven grandkids, five great grandkids, nieces and nephews.
